The External Bottle Gripper (EBG) is a second generation mechanical gripping system built around gear actuated fingers that close on the neck of a bottle, jar, or container. Because the fingers are profiled to the specific neck geometry, the grip is repeatable at high line speeds without deforming thin walled plastics or stressing glass. The lineup covers the most common container formats used across the packaging industry, with five core models.

Compact 4 Finger Gripper
The smallest gripper in the range. Four gear driven fingers handle cylindrical, square, and unusually shaped bottles, a popular choice for fresh pressed juice and medical pill bottles.

Standard 6 Finger Gripper
The most popular model in the lineup. Six gear driven fingers match the standard lid styles used across the beverage market, including cola, water, sparkling drinks, and juices.

Wide Mouth 8 Finger Gripper
Eight gear driven fingers built for wide mouth containers such as sports drink bottles and cleaning supply containers where a larger opening needs a wider, stronger hold.

External Jar Gripper
Four sets of double gear driven fingers, eight in total, give the External Jar Gripper the strength for glass jars, deli containers, and tubs in both plastic and glass.

Squeeze Bottle Gripper
Six aluminum gear driven fingers engineered for plastic squeeze bottles with twist top dispensing caps, such as olive oil and hot sauce formats.
How Gear Actuated Bottle Gripping Works
At the core of every External Bottle Gripper is a bearing supported sundial gear. When the actuator drives the gear, all fingers rotate in unison and lock around the container neck in one controlled movement. The container is held mechanically rather than by friction or vacuum, so grip strength stays constant through fast transfers, orientation changes, and palletizing moves.
Each gripper is customized to your exact bottle, jar, or container neck profile. That engineering step is what allows the same mechanism to run lightweight water bottles, carbonated formats under pressure, and heavy glass without adjustment on the line.
- 4 to 8 gear actuated fingers sized to the container neck
- Bearing supported sundial gear for smooth, synchronized closing
- 3D printed gear and rack with a low maintenance linear slide
- Anodized aluminum mounting plate for rigidity and easy fastening
- Mechanical hold that does not mark labels or crush thin walls
Multi Actuated and Single Actuated Gripper Systems

Multi Actuated Gripper System
One powerful linear actuator drives up to six grippers in a row through a rack and gear connection. Fewer actuators means lower air consumption, lower operating cost, less noise, and fewer parts to maintain on high volume bottling lines.
- Up to 6 grippers per row from a single pneumatic cylinder
- Scales from small case patterns to arrays handling hundreds of bottles
- Ideal for bottle palletizing systems and case packing

Single Actuated Gripper System
Each gripper carries its own miniature pneumatic actuator, rack, and gear, creating an ultra lightweight standalone unit. Mount them individually through the M6 through holes, or combine them into custom tooling for complicated pick arrays.
- Independent actuation for small or complex bottle patterns
- An efficient replacement for pneumatic balloon style grippers
- Supports creative tooling, including picks that flip a bottle 90 degrees before placement
Bottle Handling Automation Across Europe
Anubis Robotic Tooling supplies External Bottle Grippers to bottling plants, co-packers, and robotics integrators across Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the wider Benelux region. From beverage packaging automation to pharmaceutical and personal care lines, the EBG gives European producers a bottle handling gripper that scales with the case pattern, holds PET, glass, and HDPE containers securely, and integrates cleanly with the robots already on the floor.
For lines that change tooling between products, the EBG pairs with our Manual Tool Changer (MTC). A single rotation of the MTC handle releases the tool from the robot flange, and the built in manifold passes pressurized air straight through to the gripper, keeping changeovers quick and hose free.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an External Bottle Gripper (EBG)?
The External Bottle Gripper (EBG) is a mechanical robotic gripper that closes 4 to 8 gear actuated fingers around the neck of a bottle, jar, or container. It provides a stable, repeatable hold for pick and place, transfer, orientation, and palletizing on automated packaging lines.
Which EBG model fits my bottle or container?
The EBG-400 suits small and unusual bottle shapes, the EBG-600 covers standard beverage caps, the EBG-800 handles wide mouth containers, the EJG-800 is built for jars and tubs, and the EBG-M-600 grips squeeze bottles with twist top caps. Fingers are profiled to your exact neck geometry, so we confirm fit against your container samples.
What is the difference between the multi actuated and single actuated systems?
The multi actuated system (EBG-MAG) drives up to six grippers in a row from one linear actuator, which lowers air use, noise, and maintenance on large arrays. The single actuated system (EBG-SAG) gives every gripper its own miniature actuator, which suits small, irregular, or complicated pick patterns and custom tooling.
Can the EBG handle glass jars, PET bottles, and squeeze bottles?
Yes. The gear actuated hold works across PET, glass, and HDPE. The EJG-800 is engineered specifically for glass jars, deli containers, and tubs, while the EBG-M-600 uses aluminum fingers for squeeze bottles with twist top dispensing caps.
How many bottles can one EBG system pick at a time?
The system is modular and scales from a single gripper to arrays that handle hundreds of bottles in one cycle. Multi actuated rows of up to six grippers can be combined to match your case pattern, and larger custom arrays are built from the same standard components.
Does the EBG mark labels or damage thin walled bottles?
No. The fingers close on the neck of the container rather than the body, so labels, sleeves, and thin walls are untouched. The mechanical lock also avoids the crushing risk that friction or body clamping grippers carry at high speed.
