Automatic Carton Erector Models: 90 Degree and 180 Degree
The Automatic Carton Erector (ACE) replaces large, standalone case forming machines with a compact end-of-arm tool that runs on the 6-axis robots and cobots already working on your line. Combined with our Carton Folding Frame (CFF), the ACE transforms flat blanks into bottom-sealed cases, and it is available in two functional versions so you only pay for the capability your packaging line needs.

ACE 90 Degree
The standard 90 degree rotation model is a dedicated robotic carton erecting tool. It forms regular slotted containers (RSC), single and double walled cartons, and full overlap (FOL) case styles with consistent, repeatable folds.
- Erects multiple carton SKUs with one tool and minimal adjustment
- Vacuum lifting force options matched to carton size and board weight
- Integrated solenoid valves, vacuum ejectors, and sensors
ACE 180 Degree
The 180 degree rotation variant adds pneumatic gripping to the same erecting platform. One tool erects the case, then picks and places product into it, which removes a tool change and shortens the packaging cycle.
- Carton erecting plus pick and place in a single end effector
- Reduces manual intervention at the end of line
- Ideal for space constrained robotic packaging cells
Fold Configurations for Different Carton Styles
The ACE fold sequence is set up to match how your carton closes, so the flaps fold cleanly and the same tool holds accuracy across box styles. Three configurations cover the most common closing patterns on the line.

Base configuration for regular box designs where the front and rear flaps fold symmetrically. Ideal for standard RSC style cartons and consistent box orientations on the conveyor.

Set up for box types where the right side flaps close first. The fold mechanism and cup alignment are adjusted to control flap movement on that side, keeping the fold accurate and uniform.

Configured for box types where the left side flaps close first. Designed to manage flap sequencing and hold the carton securely during closure along the left edge.

Geometry
Each ACE model is designed to fit a wide range of carton sizes and dimensions. The scalable body layout and adjustable suction cup spacing let operators configure the tooling for different box formats without modifying the main structure. That adaptability keeps folding precise and handling secure, whether the line runs small retail boxes or large shipping cartons.

Every Automatic Carton Erector connects to the robot through our quick tool change system. Pair the ACE tool side unit with an Integrated Vacuum Tool Changer (IVTC) robot side unit to build a complete carton erecting package, with a lightweight 3D printed nylon body, integrated electronics, and a standard 8 pole receptacle for straightforward communication with the robot controller.
How Robotic Carton Erecting Works
The ACE follows a simple, repeatable sequence that turns a stack of flat blanks into taped, ready-to-fill cases. Because the folding logic lives in the robot program rather than in fixed machinery, changing carton formats is a program selection instead of a mechanical changeover.

What is the Carton Folding Frame (CFF)?
The Carton Folding Frame (CFF) is the passive folding station that works together with the ACE. As the robot draws the opened case across the frame, its guides fold each flap in sequence, and the integrated tape head seals the bottom seam. No motors and no controls, just precisely shaped geometry doing the folding work. See the full Carton Folding Frame page →
Pick the flat carton
Vacuum cups lift a single blank from the magazine, with sensor feedback confirming a secure grip.
Erect the carton
The tool opens the blank into a square case while the robot moves toward the Carton Folding Frame.
Fold the front flap
A controlled pass over the CFF folds the front minor flap into position.
Fold the back flap
The robot reverses the motion to close the rear minor flap cleanly.
Fold the side flaps
Both major flaps close as the case travels through the frame guides.
Tape and release
The CFF tape head seals the bottom seam, and the finished case is placed for filling. The 180 degree model can start pick and place immediately.
The Carton Folding Frame is available in two sizes and mounts parallel or perpendicular to the floor, so it fits the footprint and reach of your cell. Optional monitoring sensors alert the system when tape is running low, protecting uptime on unattended shifts.
Carton Handling Automation Across Europe
Anubis Robotic Tooling supplies carton erecting and carton handling automation to manufacturers, co-packers, and robotics integrators across Europe. As end of line packaging automation replaces manual case forming in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods sectors, the ACE gives European production teams a compact alternative to dedicated case erectors, one that shares a robot with palletizing or pick and place duties instead of occupying its own floor space.
The tooling arrives ready for integration. Communication runs through a standard 8 pole receptacle, and our Robot Interface Module (RIM) with plug-in software makes commissioning on FANUC CRX cobots especially fast. Whether you are building a new case packing cell or retrofitting an existing packaging line, our team supports sizing, carton trials, and integration from first inquiry to production.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Automatic Carton Erector (ACE)?
The Automatic Carton Erector (ACE) is a robotic end-of-arm tool that picks flat carton blanks, opens them into square cases, folds the flaps over a Carton Folding Frame, and presents them for taping. It performs the job of a standalone case erector using a robot or cobot your line may already have.
What carton styles can the ACE form?
The ACE forms regular slotted containers (RSC), single walled and double walled cartons, and full overlap (FOL) styles. One tool covers multiple carton SKUs with minimal adjustment, and format changes are handled in the robot program rather than through mechanical changeover.
What is the difference between the 90 degree and 180 degree ACE models?
The 90 degree model is a dedicated carton erecting tool. The 180 degree model adds pneumatic gripping, so the same end effector erects the case and then picks and places product into it. Lines that want one robot to form cases and load them choose the 180 degree version.
Is the Automatic Carton Erector safe to use with cobots?
Yes. The tooling is designed collaborative compliant, with no sharp edges, pinch points, or exposed metal. Combined with its lightweight 3D printed construction, this makes the ACE well suited to collaborative robot cells working near operators.
How does the ACE connect to my robot?
The ACE tool side connects to an Integrated Vacuum Tool Changer (IVTC) robot side unit through our quick tool change system. Power and signals run through a standard 8 pole receptacle, and a Printed Robot Flange (PRF) matches the assembly to your robot flange pattern. Plug-in software through our Robot Interface Module supports FANUC CRX cobots.
Can the ACE work alongside palletizing on the same robot?
Yes. Because the ACE mounts through a quick tool change system, one robot can switch between carton erecting, pick and place, and palletizing tools within the same cell. This multitasking approach is a major space and cost advantage over dedicated case forming machinery.
