Carton Folding Frames and Folding Arms
Erecting a case is only half the job. Once our Automatic Carton Erector (ACE) tool has opened the blank, something has to hold the box square, fold the flaps and present the case to the tape head. That is the job of the Carton Folding Frame (CFF) and the Automatic Folding Arm (AFA).
Together they turn a robot or cobot cell into a complete fold, seal and palletize line, without a large standalone case erector taking up your floor. Every part of the frame that touches the carton is printed in nylon using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), so we shape the guides around your case instead of asking your case to suit the machine.

Two sizes, two orientations
Frames mount parallel or perpendicular to the floor, so the cell keeps the layout it already has.
Folding without a folder
The arms close as the case passes through, so the flaps are folded before the box reaches the tape head.
Printed where it touches the box
Guides and pivots are printed in nylon, so they are shaped around your carton rather than bought off a shelf.
Carton Folding Frame (CFF)
The Carton Folding Frame (CFF) positions and guides the box through taping and sealing while the robot presents and transfers the erected case. Frames come in two sizes and two mounting orientations, parallel or perpendicular, so the frame fits the flow of the cell you already have.
Each frame is built around a rigid printed structure with mounting features for sensors, tape heads and stops. Smooth guides reduce drag on coated boards, and clear access points keep loading, adjustment and routine service simple. Frames can also carry monitoring sensors that warn your system when tape is running low.
Frames can be floor mounted or side mounted, and every complete system we supply includes the sensors that tell your controller where the case is and when consumables are running out.
Nothing about the frame is fixed. We work with you to adjust the guide pattern, the height and the length, so the frame is built around your case and your cell rather than around a catalogue size.

Box Taping Machine
Once the robot has erected and filled the case, it goes onto a belt taping machine that drives the box forward and seals it on the move. We integrate the Automatic Folding Arm (AFA) into the infeed of that machine, so the flaps are folded as the case travels and it reaches the tape head already closed.
The machine can be specified as a bottom sealing unit or as a top and bottom carton box taping machine, depending on where the case is filled. Adjustable tape heads take a range of box heights, driven side belts hold the case square while it moves, and smooth tape feed keeps adhesion consistent and cuts tape waste.
Because the folding arms, the frame and the tape head are set up as one system, there is no separate flap folding station and no operator reaching into the line.

Automatic Folding Arm (AFA)
The Automatic Folding Arm (AFA) is the set of arms mounted at the entry of the taping machine. The arms sit fully open while the case approaches, then close as the case moves through, sweeping the flaps inward so the box reaches the tape head already folded.
Arms can be configured as stationary or adjustable, depending on the application. Stationary arms give a fixed reference and repeat the same fold every cycle. Adjustable arms let operators tune the closing motion for different box sizes and flap lengths, so you can fine-tune folding speed and precision without giving up structural stability.

From a Single Station to a Full Line
Every cell is built from the same parts, so the same frame, arms and taping machine cover anything from a single low speed station to a line that folds, fills, seals and palletizes. The layouts below are the configurations we build most often. Which one suits you depends on your case size, your throughput and the floor you have to work with.

Loading Area
The loading area is a metal station where flat cartons are aligned and held ready for robotic pickup. It keeps each blank stable and square so the Automatic Carton Erector (ACE) tool picks cleanly every cycle, which is what keeps material supply steady through a shift.
Adjustable frames make setup simple and let the station drop into your existing production layout while holding stability and precision through continuous folding and taping cycles.

Carton Folding Frame Questions
What is a Carton Folding Frame (CFF)?
The Carton Folding Frame (CFF) is the structure that holds the case square while the robot erects it and while the tape head seals it. It guides the box through the sealing stage, carries the sensors, stops and tape heads, and comes in parallel or perpendicular layouts with rails that adjust to case width and height.
What is an Automatic Folding Arm (AFA)?
The Automatic Folding Arm (AFA) is the set of arms at the entry of the taping machine. They stay fully open while the case approaches and close as the case passes through, sweeping the flaps inward so the box reaches the tape head already folded. It replaces a separate flap folding station and keeps operators out of the line.
What is a belt taping machine?
A belt taping machine drives the case forward on side belts while a tape head seals it on the move, so the box never has to stop to be sealed. We integrate the Automatic Folding Arm (AFA) into the infeed, which means folding and sealing happen in one continuous pass.
Can you seal both the top and the bottom of the case?
Yes. The machine can be specified as a bottom sealing unit or as a top and bottom carton box taping machine, depending on where and how the case is filled. Adjustable tape heads take a range of box heights in either configuration.
Can the frame be floor mounted or side mounted?
Both. We mount the frame on the floor or from the side depending on what the cell allows, and we confirm the mounting with you as part of the layout rather than assuming one arrangement.
Do complete systems include sensors?
Yes. Every complete system we supply includes the sensors that tell your controller where the case is and when consumables such as tape are running out, so the line can flag a problem before it becomes downtime.
How customizable is the frame?
Nothing about it is fixed. We work with you to adjust the guide pattern, the height and the length so the frame is built around your case and your cell rather than around a catalogue size. The parts that touch the carton are printed, which is what makes that practical.
Should I choose a parallel or a perpendicular frame?
A parallel frame runs in line with the conveyor and keeps the cell narrow, which helps when floor space is tight. A perpendicular frame sits across the flow and shortens the robot move between the blank magazine and the frame, which helps when cycle time matters more than footprint. Send us your cell layout and we will tell you which one fits.
Should I choose stationary or adjustable folding arms?
Stationary arms give a fixed reference and repeat the same fold every cycle, which suits a line running one case size. Adjustable arms let operators change the closing motion for different box sizes and flap lengths, which suits a line with frequent changeovers.
Do I still need a standalone case erector?
No. The point of this system is to let a robot or cobot you already have do the erecting, with the frame and arms handling the folding and the taping machine handling the seal. That removes the large dedicated case erector from your floor plan and lets the same robot take on other work in the cell.
What case sizes can the frame and arms handle?
The rails and the arms are adjustable, and the printed guides are made for the case rather than bought off a shelf, so the range is set per application. Send us your case dimensions, your board grade and your target rate, and we will confirm the working range for your setup.
What does the loading area accessory do?
The loading area is a metal station that aligns and holds flat cartons so the robot picks a square, stable blank every cycle. Keeping the blanks presented the same way is what makes the rest of the sequence repeatable, so it is usually the first accessory we recommend.
